Mamluk

From a young age, these slave-warriors were trained in the art of combat and the function of a military unit.  Working closely together, they rewarded those who demonstrated prowess and allowed them to rise in the ranks so they served under and led one another.  This allows a strong, highly rigidly hierarchical military structure to flourish and each warrior to gain prestige for his accomplishment.  As a result of their hard work and strong organization, Mamluks ran their civil structure as well as military, responding to one another and defending their charge with a strict adherence to rules.

Because of their strict hierarchy, Mamluks tend to be non-chaotic, as the very reliance on order and the structure is what allows their organization to be successful.

Mamluk Organizations - This chart represents the largest, best known mamluk organizations in Al Qadim.  Each one has its own unique set of tattoos that vary depending on rank.  These are described a bit in the Players Guide to Zakara, the second of the Land of Fate books on pages 20-25. Following the chart is a link to a PDF (You will have to scroll through the first book before you reach this one.)

All mamluks have a strict rank within the organization. All mamluks still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank.
You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use, and even to requisition military support.
You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.

However, your rank pulls in the other direction as well.  If anyone of higher rank enlists your help, you are expected to immediately render aid and fulfill your duty.
